CELEBRATIONS:
If your Parish is celebrating a special event let the synod office know and we will include it in the next issue.

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS: go out to Rev. Iola Metuq celebrating his birthday on Dec 9, to Rev. Peter Ainalik celebrating his birthday on Dec 11  and to Rev.  Ann Bush celebrating her birthday on Dec 27.

WHAT’S HAPPENING:
Rev. Canon Tom Martin writes, “we dedicated a new baptism Bowl for use in St Edmund's, replacing one which had been broken a year or so ago.  The new bowl, a simple wooden bowl had been crafted by a Cree from Chisasibi, who had given it as a gift to our Church.  We decided that we would dedicate the bowl in loving memory of the late David Masty.  Although we had not planned it this way, the first child to be baptized using this bowl was David Salt, the great grandson of David Masty.”

Food, Faith and Rural Community
If you've ever wondered what those three have to do with each other this is your chance to make the connections. The Saskatoon Theological Union is offering this course in distance education format: 3 Fri-Sat periods (Feb 6-7; Mar 13-14; Apr 10-11, 2009). In previous years it has drawn people from across the country. The course looks at the social, spiritual, biblical and economic implications of producing and eating food. We start with our own supper table, move out to a global perspective and come back to look at the impact on rural communities. If you have a hunger for learning and have had at least a basic course in theology, we would love to have you in the course. Please sign up early: registration is restricted to enhance the quality of the experience and there is a pre-intensive exercise that needs to be done in January. Contact Colleen Walker at colleen.walker@usask.ca or 306-975-1558 to register.

ANNUAL REPORTS –
Just a reminder that annual reports should be completed and returned to the Synod office immediately following your annual general meetings.
Charitable Receipts – 2008 The Government requires that charitable receipts be post-marked (in the mail) by February 28, 2009. If you require the synod office to prepare these tax receipts for your parish, the Treasurer must have the information by January 31, 2009.
Assessments for 2009 In order for parishes to have a fair assessment, the Treasurer requires your collections and other revenue sources for 2008. Send this information to Elaine by January 15, 2009.
