DEMOLITION of the ORIGINAL ST.JUDE'S CATHEDRAL
The cathedral was deconsecrated on Easter Sunday 2007 and on June 1 it was demolished. The debris was removed on June 5.
AN ARCTIC APPEAL
Help us rebuild our beloved igloo church – the Cathedral of the Arctic – St.Jude’s Cathedral in Iqaluit, Nunavut, which was destroyed by arson on November 5, 2005.
The reconstruction of this historic church, which was central to the lives of thousands of Inuit people in Iqaluit and throughout Nunavut, will require generosity beyond the capabilities of the Inuit and all Anglicans of the Diocese of the Arctic.
High construction costs, a short shipping season to Baffin Island and the need for an enlarged seating capacity –-- Iqaluit is expected to double in population in the next decade –-- result in a cost of $6 million, while insurance will provide only $770,000.
Our Arctic Appeal is reaching out to Anglicans, individuals of all denominations, foundations and corporations across Canada and around the world for help.
Canadian tax-deductible donations can be made to:
